Re-Konstruct Abstract Collection 2006. Narcissus.
Posted: Aug 22, 03:34 pmNarcissus was a beautiful youth with whom many women and men fell in love with and pined after. Narcissus was a proud young man who would repeatedly shun those who offered themselves to him. Before long there were many who wished that he understand the pain of unrequited love.
Echo was one nymph who fell desperately in love with Narcissus. She presented Narcissus with her feelings but he insensitively shunned her away. She fled into the woods, crying “ May he who loves no one love himself.” Her words were granted and the young boy fell deeply in love with his refelction as he stooped down to drink from a spring.
This collection consists of very physical forms, and I tried to capture the destructive self obsessive behavior portrayed by Narcissus. The forms are very closely linked together and show a connection that if broken result in a irrevocable downfall and the destruction of any sense of self. The dark and subtle colorways refer to the geographical and emotional landscape of the myth. The story is set around imposing mountains and dreadfully deep waters while the emotional content accounts a tragic tale of lovelessness and loss.
