Desire of the intangible: June 2007
Posted: Aug 17, 09:07 pmThis was a photographic response to the theme of Synaethesia. Music often intensifies a sense of desire and something intangible. I was interested in exploring music as a prompt to re explore forgotten or suppresses emotional landscapes. I created and styled a parallel theatrical world that explored the emotional binds that are tied between two people when desire is a driving emotion in the relationship. I wanted to show irrationality, fantasy, transformation and loss. I used two female figures as I wanted to step away from conventional ideas surrounding desire that often use the hetro sexual exchange as a typical example. Desire transcends gender and sexuality, by using two female figures I was able to explore the fantasy element of desire while the fragile and fluid shape of the women’s body contributed to a feeling of a natural and uncorrupted desire. Desire is candid, potent yet almost innocent in it’s intensity and I felt that the subtlety of female figures helped to communicate the fragility of desire.
