EATSTREET IDEA SUBMITTED AND POSTED ON SI CAMP SITE - 13/11/08

I’ve submitted an idea to Social Innovation Camp called EATSTREET. The idea is based on encouraging online communities to self organize and skills share, and then meet up to take direct action in tangible public spaces. EATSTREET aims to allow public banqueting to become a common aspect of public life within the streets, parks and other public spaces of London. Please read on for more information.

EatStreet is a consensus-led, self-organised online and real-time community whose members (feasters) invent, discuss and vote on proposed feast designs online.

The Eatstreet website will be a creative space where feasters can use existing online tools, materials and individual feaster profile skills that can be used and combined to create an ideal feast which is exhibited online, and voted for by feasters. Eatstreet aims to create a space that empowers all feasters to contribute, discuss and exercise their voice and democratic vote through the act of voting for submitted banquet designs.

EatStreet provides educational, nutritional, and environmentally sustainable interchange around an unusually placed table. Once the preferred feast location, date, style and theme has been selected by means of a consensus online vote, the organising and preparation of the feast begins. Mobilizing the online group using multi media digital technologies, feasters self organize and co-ordinate production responsibilities meeting up in real time to temporarily transform their urban environment by means of installing a banquet.
